While attractions abound throughout Cape Cod, many guests at our Hyannis, MA lodging find that they don’t have to venture out of Hyannis to enjoy all that Cape Cod has to offer. If you only have a couple of days or just don’t want to spend a great deal of time in the car, here are 22 attractions within 15 minutes of Simmons Homestead Inn.

  1. John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum

Hyannis Port, as you may or may not know, is the location of one of the Kennedy Compounds, which includes three picturesque homes that served as the family’s summer residence. As John F. Kennedy spent a great deal of time here in Hyannis, it seems logical that a museum would be created in his honor. This museum, which is located in the historic former Hyannis Town Hall, is less than 1.5 miles from the inn.

  1. Go Whale Watching

There are several tour companies in Hyannis that offer whale watching tours. Humpback, Fin and Minke whales are among the baleen whales that you might see as well as pilot whales and dolphins. We have brochures from several local boat tour companies available here at the inn for your perusal.

  1. Head To The Beach

Kalmus Beach is about two miles away and is an ideal spot from which to enjoy the sea. This beach is perfect for just splashing around and searching for shells or for those who wish to try their hand at windsurfing or kitesurfing. Ocean Avenue Beach is less than a mile from the inn, as well. We can provide you with beach towels, lightweight beach chairs, umbrellas and sand buckets and shovels for the kids.

  1. Visit A Car Museum

This is the easiest attraction of them all for Simmons Homestead guests. The Toad Hall classic sports car collection is located on our property, and admission is free to all guests. The collection contains more than 50 automobiles, including classic MGs and Triumphs as well as Austin-Healeys, Lotus, Ferrari and much more.

  1. Book A Site-Seeing Cruise Or Fishing Excursion

In addition to whale watching, there are several companies that offer site-seeing cruises out of Hyannis Harbor. Cruises can take you around the harbor and along the shore where you can see many points of interest, including a view of the historic Kennedy Compound, which is a view only accessible by the sea.

You also can book Hyannis Harbor tours aboard the local ferry boats. These ferries also provide service to both Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. There are also several companies that provide sailboat charters, which can be an excellent way to enjoy a tour of the area by sea.

Additionally, there are several companies in Hyannis Harbor that offer deep sea fishing and sport fishing charters. You can spend several happy hours (full or half day) upon the high seas trolling for cod, striped bass, tuna and more. These charter companies will supply you with all the equipment you will need as well as bait.

  1. Ride A Bike

This is another fun attraction that you can enjoy right from the inn. Not only do we provide bicycles and helmets for our guests, we also can provide you with guides to all of the nearby trails, many of which are adjacent to our property.

  1. Take In A Round Of Golf

Cape Cod is a golf-lover’s paradise, and we are located just a few miles from two local courses. Twin Brooks Golf Course is a half mile from this Hyannis, MA lodging and Hyannis Golf Course is just about four miles from the inn. Both are public courses, but if you prefer to play on a private course and you belong to a private club elsewhere, you often can ask your course’s golf pro to arrange a guest pass.

  1. Enjoy The Local Water Park

If you are traveling with kids, the Cape Codder Water Park can be a fun option. This indoor/outdoor water park includes a variety of water slides, a river with waterfalls and rapids, a wave pool and an area for small children with water cannons and smaller water slides. The water park is only about 2.5 miles from Simmons Homestead Inn.

  1. Enjoy A Cape Cod Pond

While many people associate Cape Cod with the sea, there are many beautiful ponds and lakes in Cape Cod, and many offer fishing, swimming and sunbathing opportunities. You can walk to Simmons Pond from the inn, and while this is more for site-seeing than swimming, it does make a lovely walk. Hathaway’s Pond is just three miles away and includes a beach, playground and barbecue grills. Lake Wequaquet also is nearby, if you would enjoy spending some time at one of the Cape’s freshwater lakes.

  1. Sample Some Of Cape Cod’s Finest Beers

The Cape Cod Beer factory is located about three miles from our Hyannis, MA lodging. There is a once-daily tour that is open to families and even dogs (so there’s a fun activity for you and your furry friend). Tastings are available Monday through Saturday, and your $5 fee includes 3-ounce samples of five different brews as well as a souvenir tasting glass. Of course, if you have a favorite, you can order a pint and enjoy it in the beer garden.  Cape Cod Potato Chip Factory is a short distance away and lots of fun too.
